Laura Pausini sparks controversy over harsh criticism of Maradona

The Italian singer Laura Pausini unleashed a great controversy on social networks this Saturday, after criticizing the wide coverage that was given to the death of soccer legend Diego Armando Maradona, on November 25.

The comment that the artist posted on Instagram was related to the fact that the death of the Argentine soccer player detracted from the International Day Against Gender Violence, a subject on which Diego had been so controversial in life.

“In Italy, the farewell to a man who is undoubtedly very good at playing football, but very little appreciable for a thousand personal things that have been made public, instead of the farewell to so many battered, raped, abused women,” wrote the 46-year-old artist.

“Today is the most important news in this country, which this morning lost two others. I really don’t know what to think, ”he added in his post, referring to the recent murders of women in Italy.

According to the Il Messaggero portal, the publication did not last long and the interpreter of “La soledad” ended up deleting the message. Instead, she shared a heartfelt reflection on gender violence.

“Our homes, which we all feel as the only safe place, may now be for many women the most dangerous in the world. It is a fear that no woman in the world deserves to experience. And knowing that, during confinement, the number of victims of violence at the hands of the people with whom they live has increased (only today there have been two victims in Italy), makes me even more enraged ”.

“This day is to encourage all women, but also friends and family who know the situation, to always report any act of violence, abuse or harassment. We must put ourselves first and respect our dignity and values. Let’s say stop violence against women! Let’s make ourselves feel strong! ”.

The truth is that hundreds of users supported him but also many others fell on him for his comment.

Maradona’s Violence and Addiction

Although the death of the author of the best goal of the century shocked the world and there are those who still mourn him, others made reference to the irony of dying just on a day as symbolic as November 25. In 2014, one of the high-profile cases was the ex-partner Rocío Oliva, who confessed on the DDM program that Maradona beat her. A few months later a video was leaked in which Maradona was seen yelling at the driver and trying to take her cell phone.

Another controversial event occurred in July 2017 when a Russian journalist denounced him in Saint Petersburg, denouncing that the footballer pulled his clothes and offered him money in exchange for having relations with him. The young woman, identified as Ekaterina Nadolskaya, indicated that she was interviewing the Argentine, invited by FIFA for the final of the Confederations Cup.

That same year, the Madrid police had to go to the Eurostar Suites Mirasierra hotel for an alleged attack by Maradona against Oliva. The hotel manager called 112 around 8:28 am, indicating that the Argentine had hit the person with whom he shared a room.

Last year, another of her ex-partners, Claudia Villafañe, reported psychological violence.

“Claudia has been suffering attacks and psychological violence since Maradona found out about her relationship with Jorge Taiana. It is about systematic violence, persecution and harassment ”, declared Villafañe’s lawyer, Elba Marcovecchio.
