Shamrock Rovers appeal to fans to stay away

Shamrock Rovers have asked their supporters not to gather around Tallaght Stadium on Wednesday to win the SSE Airtricity League trophy.

The Hoops play their last home game of the season against St. Patrick’s Athletic. Roberto Lopes and his teammates receive their medals and trophy after the game.

The game is broadcast on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player and played behind closed doors.

A small number of fans gathered during their Europa League first-round win against Ilves.

In a statement, the club asked fans not to travel to Tallaght and to respect Covid-19 guidelines.

The Hoops said: “After talking to An Garda Síochána, the club asks all fans to heed the health and safety advice as we will be locked in level 5 and will not gather around the stadium for the presentation of the league trophy on Wednesday.”

“The club understands what this means for the fans. Everyone would like the fans to be able to take part in the games and celebrate the win, but that is just not possible right now. ”

“In addition, the season does not end on Wednesday, we have more league and cup games ahead of us and the squad will continue to focus on the goals ahead.”

The Hoops Declaration concluded with the words: “We will celebrate when it is safe”.

Stephen Bradley’s side are unbeaten in 16 games this season and could win the title by up to 16 points by the time it finishes on Sunday.

They continue to fight for a doubles with an FAI Cup quarter-finals with Finn Harps.
