The Great Escape: Why did Kwari flee Russia?

Sam Quarry is at the center of a scandal after apparently fleeing Russia. The world number 49 retired from the St. Petersburg tournament after he and his family were found positive for Corona and took off on a private jet with his wife, father, and their 8-month-old baby in what the ATP calls a “significant violation of the protocol.”

After being found positive for the virus, Quarry reportedly was instructed to go into 14-day solitary confinement at the Four Seasons Hotel in St. Petersburg, where he was staying. He then received a phone call from a representative of the Russian Ministry of Health, who told him that a doctor would soon arrive to examine him and his family.

If the examination revealed that they had symptoms, and reportedly had mild symptoms, they would have had to go to the local hospital for treatment. Therefore, for fear of being hospitalized and of being forced to be separated from the baby in a foreign country, Quarry secretly arranged for himself a private flight across the Russian border.

Now, it is alleged, Quarry is hiding in an Airbnb apartment in one of the European countries located near Russia and does not need a negative check for Corona in order to enter it. Quarry could face a fine of up to $ 100,000 or be suspended from the column if found guilty.
