Thank you for reading the news about Pitso Mosimane tipped to replace Rene Weiler at Al Ahly – Report and now with the details
Pitso Mosimane is reportedly keen on replacing Al Ahly head coach Rene Weiler after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns.
The South African coach officially resigned as Mamelodi Sundowns manager after guiding his side to their tenth Premier Soccer League (PSL) title.
The Brazilians’ league campaign was a roller-coaster ride as they trailed rivals Kaizer Chiefs for 13 months in the extended competition due to the coronavirus outbreak.
However, Sundowns managed to overtake Chiefs and retain the title on the final matchday as the latter drew 1-1 against Baroka.
On Wednesday, the Masandawana manager Pitso Mosimane announced that he has stepped down after accepting an offer from an international team.
“It is with a sense of pain and sadness that I announce my departure from Mamelodi Sundowns,” Mosimane said in a statement. “I have accepted an offer to join an international team.
“I am taking up this new challenge that will push me out of my comfort zone. I know Mamelodi Sundowns will use this as a fresh and new perspective.”
Despite his claim, Mosimane has been linked with Al Ahly’s head coach job, and according to TimesLIVE, club president Mahmoud El-Khatib is said to be a huge fan of the 56-year-old.
The report also added that Al Ahly have asked Mosimane to join them immediately to lead them to CAF Champions League triumph.
Rene Weiler has been rumoured to leave the club at the end of the season despite helping the Red Devils secure two trophies.
A 3-2 win over Zamalek back in September saw Al Ahly claim the Egypt Super Cup title, and two weeks ago, they were crowned Egyptian Premier League champions for a record 42nd time.
The Swiss manager could be on his way out with Al Ahly looking at potential replacements in Luciano Spalletti and now Pitso Mosimane.
