Thank you for reading the news about Mamelodi Sundowns crowned PSL champions for record tenth time and now with the details
Dubai - Yasmine El Tohamy - Mamelodi Sundowns have successfully retained the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) title, winning it for the tenth time in the club’s history.
The Brazilians defeated Black Leopards 3-0 on Saturday to ensure their maximum points tally, thanks to a sensational hattrick from Lebohang Maboe.
With their triumph on Saturday, Sundowns have made a dramatic turnaround over the course of the season to clinch the title on the final matchday.
League rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, were leading the standings since August of last year until September of 2020 as the season was extended due to the coronavirus outbreak back in March.
However, a 1-0 defeat against Bidvest Wits one week ago and a 1-1 draw against Baroka on Saturday saw Kaizer Chiefs give away the league’s top spot and the title to Mamelodi Sundowns.

“We never had the chance,” Sundowns Manager Pitso Mosimane told SuperSport TV via KickOff. “We only had one and a half hours when Chiefs lost to Wits. That’s the only sniff we had.
“If you play for Sundowns, you have to play every week that’s why some of the players struggle to keep up because there’s a lot of work and I’m too demanding, I push the players.
“And some crumble, some run away, some cannot take me because I’m too harsh on them but we’re here to win cups,” he added.
Sundowns have now become the only South African team to win the PSL title in three consecutive seasons on two occasions.
