Dubai - Yasmine El Tohamy - Zamalek manager Patrice Carteron expressed his disappointment with his side’s 0-0 draw against TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League.
Zamalek were held to a 0-0 draw against TP Mazembe on Friday afternoon, putting them second in Group A with eight points, three behind the Congolese side.
Following the game, Carteron talked about the encounter saying that he’s disappointed with the draw. While also commenting on Achraf Bencharki who was injured during the pre-match warm up and replaced by Ahmed Sayed ‘Zizo’.
“I’m very disappointed with the draw, we were better and reached their goal on several occasions but we were unable to score,” Carteron said during the post match press conference.
“Bencharki is a great player and is very influential as he’s the team’s top goalscorer but Zizo performed really well throughout the whole game.
“The team is in very good physical condition and we were able to achieve great results lately. If we would’ve scored in the first-half no one would’ve talked about the players’ physical condition or the absence of a fitness coach,” he added.
The Frenchman then praised his side for their performances lately, especially goalkeeper Mohamed Abo Gabal.
“Abo Gabal was slightly injured lately and he appeared today after fully recovering.”
“Our players’ ability allows to play with just one striker instead of two, I rely mostly on the crosses. ”
“We’re waiting for the result of the game between ZESCO United and Primeiro de Agosto to confirm or not our qualification and we’re aware that we no longer can lead our group,” he concluded.
The Whites might secure qualification for the quarter-finals if ZESCO United draw with side Primeiro de Agosto on Saturday. If not they will need a draw or a win in their final group stage game against Primeiro de Agosto on February 1st.
