Jeddah - Yasmine El Tohamy - MAKKAH: Security patrols in Makkah have apprehended four residents, from Pakistan and Myanmar, who were trying to defraud pilgrims through a Hajj scam, state news agency SPA reported on Monday.
The individuals were promoting bogus Hajj campaigns and selling counterfeit Hajj permits and bracelets, the report added.
Authorities have seized sums of cash, seals, mobile phones and computers that are used for their fraudulent activities, while the suspects have been referred to the Public Prosecution for further action.
Two Egyptian residents were earlier arrested after falsely promising accommodation, transportation and securing a sacrifice for pilgrims through social media advertisements.
Ads similar to those ran by the Egyptian offered services such as performing Hajj on behalf of others, securing and distributing sacrifices, selling Hajj bracelets, or providing transportation.
These scams often involve fictitious entities and individuals whose sole purpose is to deceive and defraud potential pilgrims, authorities have warned.
