On Tuesday, the Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, announced the “conclusion and success of the work of the Gulf summit” hosted by Riyadh, about an hour after its launch.

In conclusion, the Saudi Crown Prince said: “In conclusion, I would like to thank their Majesties and Highnesses for their contributions to the success of the work of this summit,” according to what was reported by the Saudi Press Agency, “SPA”.

He valued “the solidarity of all to work for the good and the development of our countries and the well-being of our peoples.” After that, the participants in the summit took a “memorial photo” after the conclusion, according to “SPA”.

Before concluding, the head of the Omani delegation, Deputy Prime Minister, Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, said: “There is no doubt that the Gulf Cooperation Council has not witnessed the kind of harmony that we find today for years.”

On behalf of his country, he welcomed assuming the presidency of the next session of the Council, stressing that all efforts will be made during the next year.

He said, “We will strive to continue the presence of the main sessions of the Council in Saudi Arabia.”

Later, the Saudi Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan, tweeted: “Positive results reached by the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries at the Gulf summit in Riyadh.”

He pointed out that it aims to “strengthen cooperation, interdependence and coordination among the GCC states, achieve the aspirations of its citizens, and unite ranks among its members,” without further details.

The summit started about an hour before its conclusion, and witnessed an opening session in which speeches were delivered by the current and previous leaders, and the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, before entering the work of the summit in a closed session, followed by the closing announcement.

Tuesday’s summit was attended by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the King of Bahrain, King Hamad bin Isa (president of the previous summit), the Vice President of the UAE, Al Maktoum, the Kuwaiti Crown Prince, Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber, and the Deputy Prime Minister for Council Affairs. Omani Minister, Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said.

The summit was chaired by Mohammed bin Salman on behalf of the Saudi monarch, Salman bin Abdulaziz.

This is the first summit to be held after the completion of a Gulf reconciliation at the previous summit in the Saudi city of Al-Ula on January 5, and ending a historic dispute that erupted in mid-2017 between Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Manama and Cairo on the one hand, and Qatar on the other.

The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf was established in 1981, and it includes 6 countries: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and the Sultanate of Oman.
