The Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, warned of the Iranian regime’s continuing intransigence, by its insistence on interfering in the internal affairs of the countries of the region, its support for extremist sectarian militias, and its threat to international navigation, stressing that the practices of this regime have destabilized security and stability. .
In his speech to the Strategic Dialogue and Cooperation symposium between the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf and Germany, the minister said, “We look to our partners in the international community to take into account the causes of tension in the region, which are represented in the Iranian regime’s violation of international charters and treaties, and its insistence on interfering in the internal affairs of the countries of the region And its support for extremist sectarian militias, and its threat to international navigation, as the practices of this regime have destabilized security and stability, at the regional and international levels, over the past four decades.
The joint symposium comes within the framework of preparations for the second German-Gulf Cooperation Forum; The Saudi minister pointed out that the Gulf-German relations are based on a historical legacy dating back nearly ninety years, following the signing of the Treaty of Friendship between Saudi Arabia and Germany in April 1929.
He stressed the efforts of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, “with what God has blessed them in terms of political and economic stability,” towards strengthening their partnership and cooperation with the Federal Republic of Germany in all fields to achieve common interests. He explained that the fruitful and constructive cooperation between the two sides “requires them to deepen and institutionalize consultation and coordination on international and regional issues, especially with regard to the leadership role of Germany and the Arab Gulf states in their region and the world.”
He emphasized that the geopolitical position of the Gulf Cooperation Council states, the historical extension of governance systems, natural and human resources, and family bonding among its peoples “constitute the most important foundations for political, security and economic stability, and thus has become an oasis of well-being and prosperity in a region surrounded by conflicts, conflicts and threats from regional powers unable to invest Its national foundations to achieve growth and prosperity ».
Prince Faisal bin Farhan said, “Such seminars and forums constitute an important tributary for the exchange of economic views of common interest, and contribute to providing the decision-maker with various visions to enhance the existing cooperation between the GCC countries and Germany.”
And he indicated that his country hosting the G20 summit this month comes as a continuation of the Kingdom’s approach based on the importance of strengthening cooperation with the international community to face the challenges it faces, and the responsibility of the G20 to invest existing cooperation to empower people and pave the way for everyone towards a better future and enact sustainable economic policies.
The Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf, said in his speech that the forum focuses on regional security, cooperation between the Gulf Cooperation Council and Germany in facing the challenges posed by the “Covid-19” pandemic, and on the opportunities available to both sides to promote common interests in the fields of Trade, investment, education, energy, and many other fields.
He indicated that the Gulf Cooperation Council has worked since its inception to promote regional integration among its member states in various fields, and has achieved many goals and is working to achieve more. He added, “Restoring peace, security and prosperity to our region as a whole” requires us to sincerely implement the rule of international law and the United Nations Charter, that is, respect for sovereignty, political independence and territorial integrity, and commitment to resolving disputes peacefully and not to interfere in internal affairs.
He pointed out that Germany shares the GCC countries’ interest and keenness on the need to restore peace and security in this region, stressing the importance of cooperation, especially in light of the Coronavirus pandemic, to achieve common interest and for the future, and to exchange ideas and proposals.
He pointed out that the Gulf Cooperation Council countries had a great role in preserving the security of energy supply and the stability of their markets, “and actively participated in the efforts of the international community to combat terrorism and reject extremism and intolerance, and provided generous economic and humanitarian assistance to their neighbors and other countries in need.”
He added that “the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council exchanged with the German Federal Office a list of proposed topics to launch a comprehensive dialogue on many issues,” stressing “the willingness to host and organize with partners a series of workshops and seminars with interested parties from both sides.”
He stressed that Germany is one of the most important trading partners, pointing out that trade exchange between the GCC countries and Germany has achieved a remarkable increase in the past few years. As the total value of the volume of trade exchange between the two sides in 2019 reached about $ 26.2 billion, while the value of Germany’s exports to the GCC countries amounted to $ 22.9 billion, and the value of GCC exports to Germany of $ 3.3 billion. He believed that the chances of increasing the numbers were great and possible.
