The Royal Commission for Al-Ula Governorate has completed its preparations to receive visitors, after comprehensive rehabilitation of a number of heritage sites, and confirmed that the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Al Hajar” or “Madain Saleh” will start receiving visitors tomorrow, Saturday.
The authority stated that the Dadan site and Jabal Ikma will be among the first sites to be reopened to visitors, after development work it witnessed during the past period.
She indicated that Al-Ula residents can enter the sites free of charge today and tomorrow, and all visitors must adhere to precautionary measures and preventive measures, which include mandatory pre-reservation of tickets, temperature checks at the airport, in addition to commitment to social distancing, and restrictions imposed on visitors at heritage sites and other sites.
In turn, the head of the Tourism Destination and Marketing Department at the Royal Commission for Al-Ula, Philip Jones, affirmed that an integrated system for travel reservation and distribution will be put in place to make visiting AlUla an easy, smooth and unparalleled experience while preserving its value at the same time, and to prepare internationally to receive visitors when tourist visas are reinstated.
He pointed out that during the coming weeks, activities and experiences in heritage sites will be announced, as well as adventure experiences and events that will be implemented during the winter months, by the first quarter of 2021. The site of the ancient Al-Ula town will also be opened to the public for the first time, starting from December 2020.
