After Saudi Arabia, Armenia is preparing to deal an economic blow...

The Eurasian Economic Commission Council will consider the issue of excluding a number of countries, including Turkey, from the list of countries using the customs preferences system in the Eurasian Economic Union.

The press office of the Armenian government said that Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mir Grigorian presented the proposal to be included in the agenda of the next meeting of the committee.

The press office added, “According to Article 36 of the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty, the member states of the Union provide facilities and preferences in the field of customs tariffs for goods produced and imported into the customs area of the Union from developing and least developed countries.”

The list of countries that enjoy these preferences was approved by a decision of the Customs Union Committee in 2009. Today, the list includes 103 countries.

The Federation includes in its membership Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, in addition to Moldova as an observer member.

In the event that the Armenian proposal is implemented, this may constitute a second blow to Turkish companies that depend on exports, in light of the Saudi boycott of Turkish products.

Saudi stores began removing various Turkish products from their shelves after calls to boycott these products, as tensions escalated between Riyadh and Ankara.
