Women enter the Shura Council with 20% – Saudi News

“We have to follow what was stated in the Book of God and the Sunnah of His Messenger Muhammad, in implementation of His commandment, glory be to Him. With these words, the founding King Abdulaziz Al Saud inaugurated the Shura Council, which presided over its first session on the morning of Sunday 17-1-1346 AH, 1927, and said to the attendees: “He consulted with them about the matter.” Then he added: “If it was not in the interests of the Shura but to establish the Sunnah and remove the heresy, then it would have ceased.”

A long history drawn up by the founding king of the Shura Council, which during his reign took many forms, the beginning of which was the civil councils, advisory bodies, specialized committees, people of knowledge, notables, heads of clans and tribes, and then followed that the first formal organization of the Shura Council in his era in the year 1345 AH in the name of the Consultative Council, which consists of members other than Full time.

With the expansion of the state, burdens and tasks, the Royal Decree No. 37 was issued on 01/09/1346 AH, 1927 to form the first Shura Council that includes full-time members headed by the Attorney General of the King and 8 other members.

The year 1349 AH – 1930 witnessed the restructuring of the Shura Council in its new session that lasted until the end of 1350 AH – 1931, and in 1351 AH – 1932 the second Shura Council was formed, and the work of the first session continued, and was renewed for its members for the second period in 1353 AH – 1934, which continued until the end of its second session at the end of In the year 1354 AH – 1935.

The beginning of Muharram 1355 AH – 1936 witnessed the re-formation of the Shura Council, which includes the speaker, his deputy, the second deputy of the council, and 10 full-time members. The work continued until the Shura Council was reconstituted in the year 1372 AH – 1953, which is the last Shura Council during the reign of King Abdulaziz. In a new dress, which included 20 members instead of 13.

The work of the Shura Council as an advisory body with independent responsibility continued until the Saudi Council of Ministers Law was promulgated in 1-2-1373 AH, which assumed some of the responsibilities of the Shura Council.

In its first session, the council consisted of a president and 60 members, and in its second session the council became composed of a chairman and 90 members, and in the third session the council included a chair and 120 members, and on January 11, 2013 (29 Safar 1434 AH), King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz issued a royal order amending the council’s system The Shura Council consists of 150 members, and at least 20% of them are women, and this is the first participation in the appointment of 30 women to the Council for the first time in the history of the Kingdom.
