RIYADH — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman gave a boost to women empowerment by bringing about gender parity in the new restructured Human Rights Commission Council by appointing 13 women in the 26-member body.
The Human Rights Commission Council was restructured following the promulgation of the royal order and the new Council will serve for four years.
President of the Human Rights Commission Dr. Awwad Bin Saleh Al Awwad expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, on setting up the restructured HRC Council.
Dr. Al Awwad thanked the leadership following the appointment of an array of competent national capacities to the Council, half of whom are women, which is an addition to the efforts of the Saudi leadership in support of human rights.
Dr. Al Awwad expressed his sincere thankfulness to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince for the support and direction the HRC receives.
“It is this support and direction that has had a huge impact on HRC’s ability to carry out its mission and discharge its responsibility in promoting and protecting human rights in accordance with the directions of the Saudi leadership,” Dr. Al Awwad said.
“It has further helped in laying the foundations and instilling a culture of human rights to the benefit of the citizens and residents of this beloved nation,” he added.
Dr. Al Awwad noted that the King’s decision to appoint 13 women to the Human Rights Commission Council, a number of seats that represent half of the council’s members, furthers the government’s efforts to empower women by appointing them to leadership positions in various fields.
“These appointments will help — by the grace of God — in achieving what the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ aspires to in the service of this dear nation,” Dr. Al Awwad said.
“With that, may God save our country and further bestow upon it the gifts of security, prosperity, and bounty under the wise leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his Crown Prince,” he added.
