One Iranian Navy vessel mistakenly hit another with a missile in the Oman Sea on Sunday, causing dozens of deaths, according to reports.

Local media reported at least 40 people were killed in the attack on the frigate, which was operating along the coast of the Hormozgan Province in Iran.

The rocket was mistakenly fired from the Jamaran frigate and several injured crew members are being treated in hospital, according to reports.

The Iranian Navy is yet to comment on the reports.
