Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - BEIRUT — The Israeli military said Sunday that it killed Abu Hassan Alaa, a senior Hezbollah commander, in a strike targeting the southern Lebanese municipality of Ansar.
In a statement on X, the Israeli military described Alaa as a senior commander in Hezbollah’s “Bader Unit” and said he was killed in an attack on what it described as a main Hezbollah headquarters.
The military said the strike came in response to Hezbollah activity against Israeli forces in the “Security Zone.”
Hezbollah did not immediately comment on the Israeli statement.
The strike came a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said three Israeli soldiers were seriously wounded in an attack it attributed to Hezbollah near the border.
The developments come as Israel has stepped up military strikes in Lebanon despite a framework agreement between Beirut and Tel Aviv that calls for a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and continued negotiations between the two sides.
Despite months of negotiations, Israel has continued its military campaign in Lebanon, which began on March 2.
According to Lebanese authorities, the campaign has killed at least 4,335 people, wounded 12,277 and displaced more than 1 million.
