Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - NEW DELHI — Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said Friday that Nicolás Maduro should be tried in his own country rather than in the United States, where he is currently detained.

Speaking during a visit to India for the Artificial Intelligence Summit, Lula said that if Maduro is to stand trial, it should take place in Venezuela and not in a foreign courtroom.

“What matters now is to re-establish democracy in Venezuela,” Lula said in an interview with India Today TV.

“And I believe that if Maduro has to be tried, he has to be tried in his country, not abroad.”
