Libyan Prime Minister Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba affirmed that the Libyan people are eagerly looking forward to “conducting free and fair elections without discrimination or exclusion.”

Dabaiba said in a speech he delivered at the start of the Libyan Conference to Support the Constitution today: “Attempts to deepen the crisis instead of solving it and restrict the will of the Libyan people by choosing their electoral will, circumventing the paths of the constitutional process and obstructing its progress.”

He added: “Let the Libyan people choose what they want and support their choice in the presence of a real constitution that derives its legitimacy from the people and the people only, and I urge all parties to support the constitutional merit as a basis for the democratic process and not to go to paths that have no goal.”

Dabaiba pointed out that “the UN agreement at its various stations in Tunisia and Geneva chose its powers with the aim of reaching elections that were supposed to take place last December.”

The Libyan prime minister considered that the delay in the elections was caused by “the lack of a constitutional basis, the delay in national reconciliation and the unification of the military institution.”

Dabaiba appealed to all Libyans to be on time and to adhere to the constitutional and electoral merit and not to allow the stage to be prolonged again and to jump on the will of the Libyan people.
