The virus grant the world still has no break. Another model calculation for the distribution of the new, presumably particularly infectious pathogen variant B1.1.7 comes to the result that the new version of Sars-CoV-2, which is already widespread in Great Britain, is 56 percent more contagious than older variants.
The estimate by the team from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is slightly lower than that which a British group of experts had derived from epidemiological data before the holidays. The so-called New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group (Nervtag) had assumed a 70 percent increase in transferability. Nevertheless, the authors of the current work, which has not yet been checked by colleagues, warn that the increased virulence of the new variant could require even stricter measures than before in order to keep the virus halfway under control.
