– There is no doubt that the city council’s behavior increases the risk of teacher strikes. Teachers get annoyed when more and more directors are hired, and the salary offer they themselves have received at the same time is far too poor. I understand well if they choose to go on strike.

Bjørn Revil sits on the city council in Oslo for FNB and is himself a teacher.

He now asks City Councilor Inga Marte Thorkildsen (SV) to stop the appointments more directors of the Education Agency in Oslo.

Million salary

On Saturday, Dagbladet reported that the controversial Education Agency will hire more directors.

The appointments come after weeks of storm after Dagbladet revealed the salary party in the agency, where the directors in the agency went up sharply in salary outside the salary settlement.

– It is entirely possible to stop these new appointments if Inga Marte Thorkildsen so wishes. I would encourage her to do that, says Bjørn Revil.

The new appointments take place at the same time as the teachers in the Oslo school have been offered a meager salary settlement due to the corona crisis. Director of Education Marte Gerhardsen also promised to reduce the number of directors in the agency to six people when she took office.

But the opposite has happened: today it is approaching 30 managers in the agency, and all have over one million in annual salary.

KrF also opened its eyes when Dagbladet published its article on Saturday.

– I thought “what every day?”. If Thorkildsen and Gerhardsen did not have much to explain before, then they have it at least now, says Espen Andreas Hasle (KrF) to Dagbladet.

Inga Marte Thorkildsen does not want to answer Dagbladet’s questions in this case. Thorkildsen refers to statements from the Education Agency that Dagbladet has not received.

– There is nothing wrong with working with the structures in the agency, but given the signals the city council and the director have given earlier, the expectation is that they will reduce the number of managers. Now we need answers. As it appears, the case is quite hair-raising, says Hasle in KrF.

– Very unfortunate

In addition to a salary party at director level, Dagbladet has also documented millions spent on consultants, headhunters and American leadership coaching. The opposition in Oslo, as well as several in the Storting, have reacted strongly to the use of money in the Oslo school SV and Thorkildsen governs.

– We in the education committee in the municipality are informed of little of what appears in Dagbladet. It’s very unfortunate. Inga Marte Thorkildsen goes too far in abdicating responsibility, says Bjørn Revil in FNB.

– I think both Thorkildsen and Gerhardsen could have done just fine with far fewer directors, and then we could have had less bureaucracy and spent the money on those who actually do the work in the Oslo school, namely the employees at the schools, Revil continues.

SMS for inconvenience

Last week, the Lektorlaget in the school went out for the first time and reprimanded Inga Marte Thorkildsen for spreading incorrect information to the public.

Previously, Dagbladet has also been able to tell that Thorkildsen and education director Marte Gerhardsen both feared a strike as a result of the wage party, and that they had a very close dialogue with the Education Association’s leader in Oslo. Together, the three agreed on a “wise message” in the face of criticism, which has upset several other unions.

Dagbladet was recently also able to report on text messages where the controversial wage party in the Oslo school was justified on equal pay grounds.

Aina Stenersen in Oslo Frp is among those who react strongly to this. Stenersen believes Thorkildsen has tried to deceive the opposition in Oslo and not given them the information she should give.

Previously, Dagbladet has been able to show that the Education Association’s leader in Oslo was central in the drafting of the agreement, and that she assisted Education Director Gerhardsen in finding “a wise message” to give to the critical press.
