Earlier this autumn, the news broke that CNN had gained access to secret footage of Melania Trump (50), which, to put it mildly, has created uproar for the first lady.

The recording was recorded in secret in the summer of 2018 by Melania’s former adviser, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff (50), who has also written the book “Melania and Me”. The book is largely based on footage Wolkoff has hidden from the first lady over the years.

Among the findings was secret recordings of Melania criticizing and complaining about the otherwise fine tradition of decorating the White House before Christmas.

– I work my ass off with these Christmas preparations, and you know … who cares a shit about Christmas and the decorations? But I have to do it, right? Okay, so I do, and I say I work with Christmas and plan Christmas, she says in the recording.

Hypocritical

With Christmas on the rise again, it may be unfortunate for the first lady that her own statements have been made public. The comments have in fact been pulled up again, in connection with this year’s Christmas tree being delivered to the White House.

The criticism has not been long in coming, and especially a post on Twitter has stirred the minds of many. There she writes warmly about the tradition, but several point out how hypocritical the post is – given her previous comments.

As mentioned, the comments have not been long in coming, and according to the Independent, there are several who are now reacting.

“I bet you’re looking forward to it, since we know how much you love Christmas,” wrote a third Twitter user.

A fourth user also refers to a previous decorative blister, where several claimed that Melania decorated the White House so that it resembled a scene from the erotic thriller “Eyes Wide Shut”.

Sharp criticism

The comment is a clear reference to Christmas in 2018, when the first lady had decorated the White House with, among other things, a small “forest” of blood-red trees. Several also claimed that it resembled a scene from “Handmaid’s Tale”.

This is far from the first year where Christmas decorations have been a big talking point in the United States. In 2018, as mentioned, it was the red trees that stole the attention – trees that in reality were supposed to symbolize bravery.

The official theme that year was “American treasures”, and the choice of the red color palette is explained as an extension of the red stripes in the American flag.

Last year, the choice fell on a much lighter palette, but even then she did not impress very much. The theme was “The Spirit of America”, and several compared the Christmas decorations with the movie thriller “The Shining” from 1980 – or as we know it in Norwegian – “The Hotel of Evil”.
