The Qatari Public Prosecution announced, on Monday, the arrest of the father of a “newborn girl” found at Hamad International Airport in the capital, Doha, and the referral of airport employees who violate the inspection procedures to the judiciary.

The Public Prosecution stated, in a statement, that “a newborn girl was found lying inside a bag in a trash bin in one of the toilets in the departure hall.”

She added, “The focus of attention at that time was first and foremost, preserving the life of this child, and she was placed under medical supervision all the time, then placed in one of the country’s childcare homes.”

And she continued: “Airport security has fulfilled its legal duty, which is to search and investigate the perpetrator of this crime, but some employees have gone beyond the procedures, believing in their correctness.”

The prosecution stated that they “summoned the medical female staff working at the airport to perform a virtual examination of those travelers in a place designated for this to control the active mothers, and then the travelers left for their destination.”

The prosecution stated that the investigations revealed that “the girl’s mother is of the nationality of an Asian country, and she had a relationship with another person of the nationality of one of the Asian countries as well. This relationship resulted from this relationship of the found child, so the mother, while leaving the country, threw the newborn child in the trash and took the plane To its destination. ”

And she continued: “By interrogating the accused, the father of the girl, he admitted his relationship with the mother of the child, and that she sent him a message and a picture of the child as soon as she was born, and the message included that she dumped the child that she gave birth to and fled to her country.”

The Qatari prosecution affirmed that “the violations committed by some employees of the airport security department are against the law.”

She explained that “the crime of attempting to kill a baby girl immediately after her birth, and in the circumstances in which she was found, is one of the most heinous and most contradictory crimes with human values, as well as punishable by the Qatari Penal Code, with a maximum penalty of fifteen years.”
The prosecution concluded its statement that the Public Prosecutor had ordered “the defendants to be brought before the criminal court to receive a penalty for what they had committed, whether those who threw the newborn child in the trash or those who violated laws and regulations among the judicial officers.”

Two sources in Doha told AFP that the Qatari authorities had requested a red notice from the international police “Interpol” in order to bring the mother to Doha to face the accusations.

At the end of last October, the Qatari government had apologized for the “illegal” searches of female passengers at the airport, after finding a newborn child.

And before that, the Australian Foreign Minister, Maris Payne, announced that the inspection at the airport, which took place on the second of that month, was referred to the Australian Federal Police.

During the incident, women travelers, including 13 Australians, were subjected to a medical examination in an ambulance on the tarmac, after the newborn was found.
