– I am convinced that this is a product that very, very many people use, also celebrities and makeup artists, all over the world, says the celebrity stylist to Dagbladet.

The product he is referring to goes by the name “Toppik” and is used by both men and women. Jan Thomas himself sells “buckets and buckets” of the product in his salon, he says.

– This is a powder that comes in a pump. You use it in your hair to fill in at the top, in the coves or at the hairline, he says.

He goes on to say that the product consists of tiny fibers in powder form that stick to the hair, and are applied with hair spray. However, it has its limitations, says Jan Thomas.

– Problems can occur if it gets hot and you sweat a lot. Then what happened happened: It gets oily, it does not last and starts to flow, he says.

He thinks the mascara theory, put forward by other hairdressers for the New York Times, is completely wrong.

– It is silly to use, because it is laid as a layer on top of the hair, and it will look strange. It also gets completely stiff, and most mascaras are waterproof, so I do not think it is mascara, says the celebrity stylist.

– How would you have solved this?

– I had applied an in-and-out hair dye, a shampoo, which you apply and sit with for two minutes, and then rinse off. Then he had the depth he was looking for.

In theory, he could also have used “Toppik” on Giuliani, but not in that situation.

– You have to adapt. Using “Toppik” on a man who tells tales, is stressed and gets very hot, is dangerous. I use it myself on big international stars, but now I’ve been doing this for 35 years, so I know what I’m doing. This is a good product, but it has probably been used in the wrong situation.
