Televisa journalist is wounded in march against coup

Tonight, while he was covering on video the massive protests that took place in the Center of Lima against the vacancy and the appointment of Manuel Merino as president, Jefferson Jhon Fowks Gómez (29) reporter for the international network Televisa he was injured due to a tear gas canister fired by the national police.

Through social networks, the video was broadcast where the press man can be seen lying on the ground while still holding the microphone of the place he works for, after the PNP attack. In that sense, the protesters who were close to him indicated that the authorities are not aware of who they are attacking.

As is known, the pellet hit him on the part of his left shoulder blade, and another hit him on the left shin on Abancay Avenue. In that sense, the red cross treated him and his current condition is stable but with a lot of pain, which is why at this time he will be evaluated at a hospital.

The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights expressed its rejection of the attacks on the men and women of the press who cover the marches of the Peruvian population.

“We reject the attacks against journalists who cover protests, remind the State that they must provide the press with the highest degree of protection so that they can carry out their work freely and keep society informed on matters of public interest,” he explained.

It should be noted that, given the protests in the Historic Center of Lima, the National Police has repressed the protesters through the use of tear gas and pellets.

Since the approval of the presidential vacancy with 105 votes in favor, protests, cacerolazos and other incidents in rejection of the measure were registered in different parts of Peru in the middle of the state of health emergency.
