The owner of a convenience store was stabbed in his business early Friday afternoon in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough. The 49-year-old man succumbed to his injuries in the early evening, Montreal police confirmed.

“This is the 22nd homicide to occur on our territory this year,” confirmed a spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), Julien Lévesque.

It was at the beginning of Friday afternoon, around 1 pm, that a call was first made to 911, in order to report a man “having been attacked by stabbing” in the convenience store of Lille, which is located at the corner of boulevard Henri-Bourassa Est and rue de Lille.

Upon arrival at the scene, police say they found the man with “upper body injuries”, which had been “possibly perpetrated by a sharp object”.

The victim was then immediately taken care of by paramedics. His death was unfortunately pronounced shortly after. Earlier on Friday, authorities said they had serious reason to fear for his life.

Several suspects involved

According to the police, several suspects are involved in this case. They all fled before the police arrived. In the evening, however, none of them had yet been arrested or arrested, according to our information.

One thing is certain: a large perimeter was erected at the corner of the two avenues concerned in order to let the investigators carry out a complete analysis of the scene.

Witnesses to the event were also met and provided depositions. Door-to-door visits were also carried out in the neighborhood in order to gather more information. Finally, traffic was temporarily diverted in the area.

The canine unit has been requested as a reinforcement on the spot to try to identify additional clues. A forensic identification technician was also sent to the scene.
