A young man who was killed in his bedroom by his father and younger brother during a bitter inheritance dispute was shot multiple times.

Although full ballistic tests are still awaited, several shots were fired at the Assolas farmhouse outside of Kanturk, where Mark was later found dead.

Gardaí fears the triple tragedy in North Cork last Monday, in which Mark O’Sullivan, 25, his father Tadhg O’Sullivan (59) and his younger brother Diarmuid O’Sullivan (23) were killed.

It is also feared that Tadhg and Diarmuid deliberately planned to confront Mark where he could not escape – and entered his bedroom before 6:40 a.m.

A personal note later recovered from Diarmuid’s body detailed his fear of the inheritance battle and the toll he and their family had suffered for it.

The long note is believed to have been written a few hours before the triple shooting, indicating that the attack was entirely deliberate.

The triple shooting followed escalating tensions within the family after details of a will-making proposal were disclosed two weeks ago favoring Mark with a farm inheritance.

Diarmuid is deeply upset about the proposed terms of the will.

Tadhg was apparently very upset about the treatment of his younger son and the failure to compromise the inheritance.

The final of the three autopsies was held yesterday at Cork University Hospital (CUH) by Deputy State Pathologist Dr. Margaret Bolster completed.

Gardaí said they are holding back the results of the autopsies for operational reasons.

While detectives are treating the matter as a criminal investigation, they are not looking for anyone related to the incident.

Both Tadhg and Diarmuid died from close range gunshot wounds.

According to sources, Mark has since suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Gardaí recovered a total of three legally held weapons on the property and the surrounding fields last Monday – a shotgun and two rifles.

It is not believed that the shotgun was unloaded.

The two rifles were recovered from the bodies of Tadhg and Diarmuid in a field 600 meters from the farmhouse known as “The Fort”.

due to its proximity to an old fairy ring.

All three weapons have now been sent to Dublin for analysis by ballistic experts.

Gardaí hopes the ballistic analysis will help them piece together the exact sequence of the tragic events last Monday morning.

A full forensic analysis of the farmhouse and the surrounding scene was carried out by officials from the Garda Technical Bureau.

Mark had been several days away from the Assolas property between Kanturk and Castlemagner when he took his mother Ann (60) to Dublin for a doctor’s appointment.

The 60-year-old, a respected nurse from nearby Mallow, has been struggling with serious health problems lately.

She is now being comforted by relatives and friends. Clergymen from Kanturk and Castlemagner visited the mother with a broken heart.

Legal records found in the farmhouse, as well as a detailed personal note found next to Diarmuid’s body, further reinforced the Garda theory that the tragedy was linked to a bitter dispute over the legacy of a 115-acre local business.

The note detailing Diarmuid’s excitement over the inheritance litigation and the personal tribute he had taken for it.

It is more than a dozen pages in length and, as stated, has been left to his mother’s attention.

It is expected that all three bodies will be released back to the grieving family shortly.

Funeral arrangements are ongoing, although they are expected to be strictly private at the family’s request.
