There are “too many stories” from people infected with Covid-19 and close contacts who do not adhere to health advice, the chief medical officer said.
Dr. Tony Holohan used social media to urge those in contact with the virus to self-isolate and limit their movements.
In a Twitter post, Dr. Holohan calls on the public to “spread the word” on how the spread of Covid-19 can be contained through self-isolating and restrictive movements.
He said, “We need cases and contacts that will act fully in accordance with the advice.
“There are too many stories of people with symptoms / waiting for tests and not self-isolating, including contacts that don’t restrict movement.”
INSULATION MANUAL
The CMO also tweeted a link to an instructional video for those who contracted the fatal mistake.
Those diagnosed with Covid-19 will need to self-isolate for a period of 10 days.
The isolation period applies to all infected people, even if they feel well or have no symptoms.
Dr. Holohan stated, “Self-isolation means staying completely indoors and avoiding contact with other people.
“This includes the people you live with. That means staying in a different room with a window to the outside and using a different bathroom than others in this household if possible.
“Here are [some] Very important things to keep in mind when isolating yourself: Avoid contact with other people, especially the elderly and those with long-term illness.
“Clean your room every day with a household cleaner or disinfectant.
“Do not go to work, school, worship or public areas and have no visitors in your home.”
Dr. Holohan advised those who feel uncomfortable or worried about becoming uncomfortable during self-isolation to call their GP.
He added: “[Phone your GP] especially if your breathing changes or becomes difficult, or your cough worsens, for example. ”
Self-isolation can end 10 days from symptoms first and after five days without a fever.
For patients without symptoms, self-isolation can end 10 days after the Covid-19 test has been carried out.
CLOSE CONTACTS
Close contacts must do a Covid-19 test and limit their movements for 14 days from the last contact with an infected person.
You need to do this even if the test is negative and isolate yourself if they show symptoms.
A close contact is someone who spends more than 15 minutes of face-to-face contact within six feet of someone with Covid-19, indoors or outdoors.
Other forms of close contact live in the same house or shared apartment as someone with the disease, or sit in two seats of someone who has coronavirus on public transport or on an airplane.
Employees will find out if they are a close contact through the Department of Health’s contact tracing team or the Covid-19 tracker app.
