Nicola Keane, who worked at Children’s Health Ireland in Crumlin, fell to her death after jumping off the M50 toll bridge at 3:45 a.m. yesterday.
The body of her seven-month-old son Henry was discovered by Gardaí about an hour later at their home on Shackleton Way in Lucan.
The child was found in a room on the upper floor of the house and his death was officially classified as “unresolved” by Gardaí last night.
The results of an autopsy of the child’s body performed in the same hospital where his mother worked showed that he died of suffocation.
Older sources say the autopsy results “did not definitively determine” the circumstances of Baby Henry’s death and did not lead to any particular line of investigation.
It is believed that Ms. Keane had suffered from postnatal depression in the past few months. When Ms. Keane lived in Lucan for the past few years, she was originally from Ballina and her death. The terrible tragedy that surrounds them has caused a great shock in the city of Co Mayo.
Fianna Fáil’s local councilor Annie May Reape said: “The whole city is devastated, everyone is upset.
“They were the most beautiful people and are very much appreciated by everyone.
“Her mother Mary was the most fabulous community spirit woman and they raised fabulous, kind girls.

“This is the worst tragedy. We pray for everyone. ”
Last night, Gardaí said they are continuing to “investigate” all the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
“The main focus of the investigation team is currently on the preparation of an investigation file for the coroner in relation to the still unexplained death of the boy,” said a Garda spokesman.
Gardaí saw no evidence of violence or any obvious evidence of a violent death when they conducted a detailed forensic examination of the property where the body of Baby Henry was discovered around 5 a.m. yesterday.
Ms. Keane’s body was previously discovered on Lower Road, Strawberry Beds, after the traumatized woman jumped off the M50 toll bridge at around 3:45 a.m.
She had been seen to behave erratically on the bridge after driving there and getting out of her car.
Gardaí, who was investigating this terrible tragedy, found that the car was registered at an address on Shackleton Way in nearby Lucan.
It is believed that Ms. Keane’s husband was sleeping and was woken up by the officers when they called the property.
Then the baby’s body was discovered in a room upstairs in the house.
The devastated man did not know that the little child had died.
“An examination of the scene found no evidence of violence and nothing unusual was observed on the property when Gardaí examined it,” the source added.
No other children were present in the house on the outskirts of Lucan.
An autopsy on Ms. Keane’s body is due to take place at the Dublin morgue today.
Gardaí says they are not looking for anyone in connection with the tragic deaths, although the child’s death is still described as “unexplained”.
Yesterday, Garda specialists continued to investigate the property on Shackleton Way while detectives conducted door-to-door investigations.
The local Lukan community mourned Ms. Keane and her son yesterday.
A neighbor told the Irish Independent, “I’ve spoken to her a couple of times.
“She was very kind and seemed happy. Your little boy was beautiful.
“We always saw the couple walking up and down in the stroller with the baby. Really, they are a lovely couple.
“We are shocked. They paced up and down every day and she looked like she was in good shape.
“This is the last thing we would have expected. I saw her a few days ago walking up and down the baby.
“Everyone is doing that now. They walk through the property with their babies. This is a family area. ”
Halloween decorations hung on the doors and plainclothes policemen in masks went door to door asking questions.
“This is a happy family,” said one woman. “That does not happen. They were happy, you could see it.
“That’s just shocking. I can’t take it up. I can’t stop thinking about the baby, he was only seven months old.
“It’s just so sad. It’s like something terrible that we would see on TV. It’s not like real life and it’s hard for me to understand. ”
A male neighbor said, “I heard the news on the radio and when I realized that this is the lady who happened to me on the street regularly, I was just sick.
“When I saw her, she smiled, she looked so pleased. I just can’t believe this happened. It’s not like there are any visible signs that something was wrong. She looked like one of the mothers who walk up and down the street with their babies. There was nothing to make anyone believe anything was wrong.
“This is a quiet, family neighborhood. It’s the kind of place every family wants to live in.
“It was only a few days ago. I saw her push the stroller. It’s hard for us to hear that this happened here. ”
“It’s too tragic. Times are tough enough. I just wish her and the baby peace.
“And I think of the father and all of their relatives,” added the man.
