The Myanmar Navy – Tamadaw Yay – has its lone submarine on public display during its ongoing fleet exercise 2020 (exercise ‘Bandoola’), which began on October 15.

The highlight of the exercise, in which at least 12 naval vessels took part, was the UK-UMS Project 877 EKM

When the Tatmadaw released pictures of the submarine on October 15, 2020, the Indian Foreign Ministry (MEA) made an official announcement regarding the submarine transfer.

MEA spokesman Anurg Srivastava said India will “deliver a Kilo-class submarine, INS

to the Myanmar Navy ”as part of India’s“ increased engagement ”with Myanmar, adding that this development is in line with India’s vision of SAGAR (security and growth for all in the region) and also in line with our commitment to building Capacities and independence in all of our neighboring countries.

India strives to counter the Chinese influence in neighboring countries. In terms of security, India’s neighbors like Myanmar benefit significantly from arms deals on very favorable terms and credit lines from both countries, as India tries to vie with China for influence.

However, the MEA announcement follows the actual broadcast, which was believed to have taken place in February 2020 when images were taken from
Sindhuvir
