Postponed this spring due to the pandemic, Aventiclap will finally take place from October 22 to 25 in Avenches (VD). On the menu for this 3rd edition: five Swiss films in competition, short films, a tribute to Fellini, two Argentinian FIFF films and the last Yakari. The festival opens Thursday with an evening dedicated to Bruno Manser.

The environmental activist, who died in Malaysia in 2000, is at the heart of the film “Bruno Manser, The voice of the tropical forest”. The screening will be preceded by a meeting with Baptiste Laville, from the Manser Foundation, around the film and the palm oil plantations in Borneo.

Five Swiss films will compete for the Marcus d’or 2020. To be discovered on Friday: “Die fruchtbaren Jahre sind vorbei”, by Natascha Beller, is a comedy about three women grappling with the social pressure that weighs on children and career.

Amazonian journey

On Saturday, the documentary “Objectif sauvage” will tell the story of three young people from the Vevey region who have gone in search of a lagoon lost in the Bolivian Amazon. It will be followed by “O fim do mundo”, by Basil Da Cunha, a director born in Morges, who films the return of a young man in a suburb of Lisbon after having spent eight years in a correctional house.

In the evening, Pierre Monnard’s “Children of Platzspitz” tells the story of the dark years of the Zurich drug scene through the eyes of a young girl whose mother is a drug addict. The documentary “The Seven Churches of the Apocalypse” closed the competition on Sunday, returning to one of the most mysterious texts in the Bible.

Short films and Fellini

Seven short films will be screened in the presence of the film crews, including “The Karloff: End of a Monster” shown in preview. This documentary by Pierric Tenthorey chronicles the last days of the Lausanne DVD store, which closed its doors in March 2020.

The festival has also given carte blanche to the Friborg International Film Festival (FIFF) and its director Thierry Jobin. In this context, two Argentinian films will be screened, including “La Revenge des losers” by Sebastian Borensztein.

On Saturday, Aventiclap will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Federico Fellini. Gérald Morin, filmmaker and former secretary of the director, will present his film “In the footsteps of Fellini”. Families will be able to take their children to discover the latest film adaptation of Derib and Job, “Yakari – La grande aventure”.

Due to the health crisis, reservations for screenings are compulsory. The festival welcomed 3,000 visitors in 2019.
