Review: “Star Wars” – NRK – We reviewed “Star Wars” song...

TV: Tonight the participants sang list pop and stadium rock. After the votes had been counted, it was Vegard Bjørsmo who pulled the shortest straw. Next Saturday is the semifinals.

We reviewed tonight’s broadcast song by song. Read the reviews below here.

List Pop (Hits of the Year):

Vegard: «Don´t Start Now» – Dua Lipa

Is there anyone who can take on the role of flamboyant pop star, it’s Vegard. At least he has charisma and energy in buckets. Vocally, however, it feels somewhat flat. There is a lack of pondus in the verses and bridge – I think the choice of song limits a bit what he gets shown by his singing skills. But as a whole, it is perfectly OK delivered from the great talent from the North. If Vegard goes on tonight, he must be smarter with his song choices.

Sandra: «What´s Love Got To Do With it» – Kygo, Tina Turner

It’s not just, just having to fill the shoes of one of the most characterful pop singers of all time. To succeed, you must either sing so that the roof lightens or be able to add something completely your own to the song. Sandra is not completely comfortable when she sings in the lower registers – something that goes beyond the groove and the profits. It is something completely different when she is given the opportunity to pull on at the opposite end of the register. In other words, it does not sit at the very beginning, but it lifts correspondingly above the middle. When she gets to use the support and the lungs, Sandra is raw.

We reviewed

Knut Marius: «Someone You Loved» – Lewis Capaldi

Knut Marius once again chooses a song for De great emotions. You can probably not blame him for that either, all the time he masters that kind at his fingertips. But we already know that, so it might have been fun to hear him make a more radical choice. The small reservation here is not about Knut Marius not delivering, because he does it as he pleases. Communication and technique are great atmosphere, but do something strange next time then. Because both one and two shipments are guaranteed.

We reviewed

Ingeborg: «Somebody» – Dagny

Very fun that Ingeborg chooses a Norwegian song here. It is important to show that we actually have a more than rising Norwegian pop scene. Dagny writes songs with a significant x-factor and infectious, clever melodies. Ingeborg, in turn, manages to convey this exoticism with great wholeness. Her sound is of course tailored to the assignment, the charisma and the dancing skills as well. It is about being natural down, but at the same time insistent and present. It looks and sounds so easy.

Vegard: «When You Were Young» – The Killers

Singing The Killers is a challenge in several ways. Vocalist Brandon Flowers has a lot of weight, at the same time as he has a melancholy quality in his voice that is not easy to copy. Basically, this should still be something that could suit Vegard – he has already shown that he has many facets in his voice even though he is relatively inexperienced. Vegard, however, gets a couple of challenges along the way. First, he does not quite hit the high notes. He works really hard, but again the show factor becomes what has to cover for the places where it gurgles vocally.

(NB! Due to a technical glitch, this review was left out with a single dice for a few minutes.)

We reviewed

Sandra: «You Shook Me All Night Long» – AC/DC

Have we got our own Joan Jett? It is of course a hopeless task to challenge the whiskey voice of Brian Johnson in AC / DC, so here you have to find your own solution to the challenge. Sandra does quite well. She has a nice crack in the otherwise quite twinkling clear voice. In addition, she manages to let go and have fun with the song. Not the most groundbreaking moment Sandra has delivered in “Star Wars”, but it was fun and, well – quite liberating to see her be so informal.

We reviewed

Knut Marius: «Run To The Hills» – Iron Maiden

Basically, this should be a good scouring for Knut Marius. He has both lungs and register. The challenge is that it should not tip over into the parody. It can easily become too much vibrato if you are not careful. Knut Marius is dangerously close in the bridge, but recovers when he plants the chorus right in the middle floor of you and the devilish violence is as it should be. It’s something of a journeyman’s leap here, but it’s no surprise that Knut Marius lands rock solid on the upper tonal peak. And luckily he has a little twinkle in his eye on the road too.

We reviewed

Ingeborg: «Rock The Night» – Europe

For a “potato” Ingeborg is – she makes everything she performs sound as if that is what she usually does. At least she’s not ashamed of Joey Tempest. For an energy and for a voice. This sounds classic rock from first to last note. Even though Ingeborg says that she hardly knows what rock is, it certainly does not look like that. We’ll get “Rock the Night” back on the charts soon, right?

The case is being updated.
