Conflans-Sainte-Honorine: For Charlie Hebdo, “intolerance has just crossed a new threshold”

CONFLANS – “Intolerance has just crossed a new threshold”. The satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo expressed “its feeling of horror and revolt” after the assassination of a teacher in the Yvelines this Friday, October 16.

According to preliminary information from the investigation, the history teacher had recently shown caricatures of Muhammad to his students as part of a course on freedom of expression. Some parents were upset, especially on social networks.

“Intolerance has just crossed a new threshold and does not seem to stop at nothing to impose its terror on our country. Only the determination of political power and the solidarity of all will defeat this fascist ideology, ”the magazine wrote on Twitter.

Charlie Hebdo was targeted in an attack in January 2015 by Islamists who accused him of publishing caricatures of Mohammed. The trial has been held at the Paris Special Assize Court since early September, with 14 defendants in the box.

“This filthy act mourns our democracy but must make us more combative than ever to defend our freedom”, concluded the newspaper.

At the start of the trial, the newspaper republished the cartoons, drawing new threats from the terrorist group Al-Qaeda. A few days later, a stabbing attack left two injured in front of the former editorial office. The assailant, who confirmed to target the weekly, was indicted for “attempted assassination in connection with a terrorist enterprise”.
