At the beginning of the year, Danna Paola announced that she would put her acting role on hold to focus on her musical career. He finished filming the series’Elite‘and began working, from isolation due to the pandemic, on his new album. He made sporadic releases and collaborations like the ones he did with Sebastian Yatra and recently with the Peruvian Isabela Merced on the song Don’t Go, which already has 470 thousand reproductions on Spotify.

Now, he returns to Netflix but as an interpreter of ‘Journey into the light‘, the Spanish version of the main theme of the animated film Beyond the Moon, which opens this October 23. Along with other media, La República spoke on Zoom with the Mexican youth star about his experience in this film directed by Oscar winner Glen Keane.

Beyond the Moon talks about loss and how to deal with grief. In your personal life, have you had any loss that has marked you?

Of course. I lost my grandfather when I was 3 years old. It is the law of life, but I try to turn it around and I think there is someone up there who takes care of me. On an emotional level we are all afraid of losing someone, but we do not realize that in the end those people are going to stay in our hearts. It is difficult to face a duel, it depends on maturity because no one prepares you for these types of situations. The film will show you how this 12-year-old girl faces grief, that the family will always be united and will help us to become strong.

Do you think the film is timely at this time when the Covid-19 pandemic has claimed thousands of lives around the world?

So is. As human beings we live in very difficult times. We are in such a sensitive moment, desperate for so much bad news and chaos. And just that rocket of the girl goes towards the light, towards tomorrow, to be born again and move forward, to believe in your dreams, to the new normality that touches us. The message is eternal love, family and staying connected through what we all see: the moon. It is definitely an emotionally necessary tape.

How was the process when Netflix asked you to interpret the theme ‘Journey to the Light’ for the film?

It has been literally a ‘journey to light‘. Today I am on hiatus as an actress and focused on my personal project as a performer, so this song is a great opportunity for me. Now that I have been doing Latin and urban pop, this puts me on the other side, it opens up my panorama, my mind and creativity.

Would you have liked to do the voice of a leading character like Fei Fei, for example?

I would have loved it, but I am focused on my singing career and this is a plus. I think things come from something in life. I who am a fan of this type of movies and musicals, it is important and special to be part of them. It is an opportunity as a singer to continue building for the future.

Are you not curious to venture further into the ballad market?

I am multifaceted. Of course I would love to make a ballad-only album, explore off-road and cover all markets.

What does the responsibility of being an example to many girls represent to you?

It’s very crazy, you know? I want to give a good message through my music, diversity, love. I always focus and take care of my songs. As simple as they are, I want them to have a personal background and experience. I try not to take it to the predictable. It is important that today my songs have messages like the female empowerment, or not gender violence. I am a person who will always defend those things because nowadays people pay attention to music, it is what moves us. I want to be part of that generation that changes things through music.

You did a collaboration on the song Don’t Go by Isabela Merced (Dora the Explorer), a Peruvian actress who is now also dedicated to music. How was the experience of working together?

Don’t Go is a song that I really like, as I always say ‘Latin Peruvian Mexican flavor’. For me it has been a great job, the fruit of patience, effort and a lot of love. Also, Isabela is a divine and very talented girl. I hope both fans of hers and mine love and enjoy the song, as much as we enjoy making it.
