The incident involving a car and a school bus occurred on Downpatrick Road in Clough, Co Down and was reported around 8:35 a.m. this morning.
The bus is believed to have been taking students to St. Malachy’s High School in Castlewellan when the crash occurred, Belfast Live reports.
Police then closed the road and the emergency services, including the Northern Ireland Air Ambulance charity, paramedics and firefighters, were disrupted.
A Translink spokesman said: “We can confirm that a bus operating a school service to Castlewellan was involved in a collision with a car near Clough this morning at around 8:35 am.
“Emergency services were called on site.
“Both occupants of the car were taken to the hospital.
“The bus driver was taken to the hospital just like a student. Initial reports suggest that her injuries are not serious.
“We will work with the PSNI on your investigation.”
A PSNI spokesman said: “Police are currently at the site of a serious traffic collision on Downpatrick Road in Clough with a bus and a car that happened just before 8:40 am.
“The male driver of the car and his male passenger were taken to the hospital. The driver of the bus was also hospitalized.
“Twelve students were on board the bus; two of them were treated on site by paramedics. A third student on the bus was taken from the crime scene to the hospital for treatment. We believe in the injuries of the students at this point.
“Our officers are staying at the crime scene on Downpatrick Road, which is closed and will remain closed for some time while we deal with the collision.
“We ask drivers to avoid the area and use an alternative route. We will provide you with further information as soon as we are able to do so. ”
