Hundreds of people participated in a demonstration demanding “recognition of Artsakh” before the French National Assembly in Paris, at the invitation of the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations in France, which welcomed the initiative of the French representatives.
On the other hand, more than 170 elected officials, including Socialist Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo and President of the Republican Party in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Laurent Fouquet, called on France to abandon its position of neutrality regarding the “Azerbaijani aggression against Armenians” in Nagorny Karabakh.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian had rejected the calls of French parliamentarians to stand with the Armenians in the conflict, stressing the need for Paris to be “impartial” because of its position as a mediator in the crisis.
