On a Covid-Ireland HSPC map, a Red Sea dominates the border districts, with incidence rates more than three times higher than the national average.

Over the past 14 days, Ballyjamesduff, Co Cavan, has recorded a staggering 651.1 per 100,000 confirmed cases. This corresponds to a national average of 177.2 per 100,000 cases.

The situation in Dublin seems to have largely stabilized compared to the border districts.

Ballyfermot-Drimnagh in Co Dublin had an incidence of 310.4, Ongar in the city had an incidence rate of 256.7, and the north downtown rate was 256.7.

Figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Center (HPSC) show that Ballyjamesduff has the highest incidence rate in the country.

The second highest incidence rate was recorded at Lifford-Stranorlar in Co Donegal, where an incidence rate of 610.3 per 100,000 has been observed over the past two weeks.

However, it is not just border towns that have high incidence rates, although they dominate.

Gorey in Co Wexford recorded the third highest number at 533.8 Covid-19 per 100,000 in the two weeks.

The fourth highest rate was recorded in another border town, Buncrana in Co Donegal, which borders Derry.

The city of just 22,366 people had 487.3 incidence cases per 100,000 people in the past two weeks.

Granard in Co Longford had 449.7 incidences per 100,000, Cardonagh in Co Donegal 442.1 incidences per 100,000, and Kilrush in Co Clare an incidence rate of 409.6.

Monaghan had a rate of 405.4, Adare-Rathkeale in Co Limerick 382.5, Ratoath in Co Meath 375.2, Carrick-on-Shannon in Co Leitrim an incidence of 272.9, and Carrickmacross-Castleblayney in Co Monaghan 275, 2.

An incidence rate of 256.3 was recorded in Cork City North West and a rate of 264.8 in Ashbourne, Co Meath

The decline in the incidence rate in Dublin appears to indicate that the level 3 restrictions have come into effect.

Regardless, the capital will face further restrictions at midnight tonight, as will the rest of the country, with home visits banned.

While level 4 restrictions have been introduced in Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan, the incidence rate in these areas is increasing.
