One person has died after two cars collided head-on on a county road in Haddal in Møre og Romsdal.

On Wednesday afternoon, the police responded to a serious traffic accident in Haddal on Sunnmøre. It was reported early on that several of the four people involved were trapped.

– One person died and two were seriously injured in the accident. The fourth person appears unharmed, the police report at 9.30 pm.

Relatives have been notified, they write further.

All who were trapped were released and flown to Ålesund Hospital by air ambulance.

The course of events is still not clear, and the police will investigate the case.

– The accident group of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the police forensic technicians are on site to carry out surveys and investigations, so hopefully they can conclude what has happened here. The work will continue for a while ahead, so the road will probably be closed for several hours, says operations manager in Arild Reite in the police to VG.

The police were notified of the accident around 5 pm on Wednesday afternoon.

– This is a frontal collision. There are several who are trapped, but it is confusing. Both fire and health work with liberation, said operations manager Arild Reite at Møre og Romsdal police district at 17.30.

– The fire service assists in an ongoing action on a traffic accident. They work on site to free people, confirmed duty manager Jon Rune Lillebø at the 110 exchange in Møre og Romsdal.

Vegtrafikksentralen midt reports that county road 653 is closed after the accident. Local detours have been set up for passenger cars, but larger vehicles must take the ferry connection Fv 61 Hareid-Sulesund and E39 Solavågen-Festøya, they write.

On Twitter, the police write that the road will be closed for a while.

– There will be opportunities to redirect smaller vehicles. Larger cars can not pass.
