The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City – represented by the infrastructure sector and municipality assets – has completed the Natural Beautification Assets Inventory, which is an important plan towards exploiting the available internal resources and capabilities (operation and maintenance contractors on Abu Dhabi Island and the mainland), and the area covered in the initiative is estimated to be more than 10 million meters Square, and it took nearly two years to start the initiative during the second quarter of 2018.

The initiative came within the strategic plan of the municipality with the aim of updating and developing a database of agricultural and garden assets and contributing to good planning of operation and maintenance work to raise the level of service for such assets because of their essential role in the cultural and aesthetic appearance of the city.

And because green spaces have a great role in improving the climate and raising the quality of life, the fact that natural beautification, gardens and parks are an outlet and provide a spirit of happiness and joy to the community, in addition to providing shades and creating a comfortable environment for pedestrians and cycling paths.

Cut costs

The initiative also aimed to reduce costs by exploiting human resources and potentials, achieving the best possible use, and employing them in achieving public interests and embodying government directions, which would benefit the development of foundations, studies and research in terms of implementing sustainability standards and optimal utilization of resources.

It is worth noting that the Abu Dhabi City Municipality has prepared the survey specifications (cadastral lift) above, and has held several training workshops for consultants and contractors for operation and maintenance contracts to clarify the survey mechanism to be in conformity with the specifications and standards approved by the municipality. To ensure data quality.

The data collected on the origins of natural beautification include: various trees, palms, hedges, plant covers, seasonal flowers and many other plants.

And industrial cosmetic assets such as: pedestrian paths, seats, fountains, decorative lighting poles, and children’s play areas. The attributes of natural and artificial cosmetic assets were also collected in full according to specific classifications, such as: scientific name, type, asset dimensions, asset status evaluation, amount of irrigation water and other features.

The municipality affirmed its keenness to collect high-precision data because of its importance in raising the level of operational processes and providing services, including issuing the necessary permits and issuing no-objection certificates to various entities in order to preserve the assets, costs and damages that may result from poor data accuracy.

Review mechanism

Accordingly, the municipality set up a mechanism for reviewing and approving the data for the graphic survey of natural cosmetic assets, which depends on two phases for review and scrutiny until the accuracy of the data reaches 100%.

The first stage includes uploading data and verifying that all general requirements are met with checking the following points: Matching asset locations with the aerial image and ensuring that all required asset attributes are filled in. Assets that are not available to them can be checked in the databases.

As for the second phase, it includes conducting field visits to verify the locations of the assets and their features and cover the survey work for the site. This is done according to a specific geographical area and selecting random samples according to scientific and practical bases.
