During a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that his country is ready to recognize the independence of what he called the “Karabakh Republic”, if that would help solve the crisis.
He added that the settlement of the conflict must have compromises and concessions, and that his country is ready for that in the event that Azerbaijan wishes to do so, he said.
Pashinyan emphasized that the conflict in Karabakh went outside the borders of the region and became a threat to international security, and accused Turkey of seeking to revive the Ottoman Empire and repeat what he described as the Armenian genocide.
In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia’s obligations towards the security of Armenia within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization do not apply to Karabakh.
On the other hand, the Russian TASS news agency quoted the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, that his country will return to talks with Armenia after the end of the “critical” military conflict stage in Karabakh.
Aliyev added that Turkey has the right to participate in the mediation, after Pashinyan told Time magazine that his country would not agree to a ceasefire unless Turkey ceased to engage in the conflict and the “mercenaries” were withdrawn.
Aliyev had spoken by phone with Putin, where the latter described what was happening in the region as a tragedy, and called for a ceasefire as soon as possible.
Iran and France
On the other hand, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned of the widening of the war, stressing that Iran would not allow those he described as terrorists to be near its borders.
Rouhani added that the solution to the crisis is through dialogue, and that Tehran is ready to provide the necessary assistance to solve the dispute.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that Tehran delivered an official memorandum of protest to both Azerbaijan and Armenia, objecting to the fall of missiles on the Iranian border areas as a result of the ongoing conflict between the two countries, considering that a violation of Iranian sovereignty.
Khatibzadeh added that his country will not tolerate when it comes to the security of its citizens, calling on both parties to be careful, and to take the necessary measures to prevent the matter from recurring.
In Paris, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly that “what is new in the matter is the presence of a military intervention by Turkey, which could lead to fueling and internationalizing the conflict.”
The minister expressed his regret for “the occurrence of a large number of civilian casualties in order to achieve slight progress in the territories on the part of Azerbaijan, since it was the one who started the fighting.” Which includes France, Russia and the United States.
Le Drian explained that there will be meetings tomorrow in Geneva and the other Monday in Moscow, hoping to prepare for the start of negotiations.
The bombing continues
On the field level, the Al-Jazeera correspondent quoted Armenian military sources as saying that the Azerbaijani bombardment has renewed on the city of Stepanakert, the capital of the Nagorno Karabakh region.
He added that the missile and artillery shelling renewed the neighboring city of Shushi, and led to civilian casualties.
The Armenian army had announced the killing of 60 Azeri soldiers and the destruction of dozens of heavy machinery and weapons while repelling an attack by the Azeri forces on the city of Gabriel, southeast of Karabakh.
On the other hand, Azerbaijani defense ministry sources said that the Azerbaijani army operations are continuing on all fronts.
The Anadolu Agency correspondent explained that the Azerbaijani army’s air defense systems impeded an Armenian long-range missile attack on Havela, as the attack came after targeting the “Baku Tbilisi Kars” pipeline to transport natural gas on Tuesday evening.
Citizens of Azerbaijani villages in the east of Karabakh region have resorted to schools to take shelter from the Armenian bombardment, as the villages of Agha Badi and Aghdam regions have been under constant bombardment since the start of the fighting on 27 September.
