A joint Iraqi-US base is coming under rocket attack, US defense officials confirmed on Tuesday, raising the spectre of escalation in the country.
Reports form US media confirmed that Ain Al Asad base is coming under attack.
One official said the "airbase that houses US & coalition troops in Iraq has been hit with six rockets," while another military source said the "base is being hit now with indirect fire, rounds are still coming in, about 30 so far."
US President Donald Trump visited the base in 2018. The attack comes as tension boils between US and Iran following the killing of the Iranian senior general Qassem Suleimani in Iraq last Friday.
