Supernatural Season 15 Episode 19 Recap: Inherit the Earth

The world may have a hollow echo, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a few guest stars. Jake Abel and Mark Pellegrino return as Michael and Lucifer in this episode for another brief fraternal spit. It’s a quick but vibrant interaction. Both appear to be allies at first who defeat Chuck and then are exposed as turncoats at different times.

It’s pretty telling that Daddy’s Boy and Daddy’s Original Favorite both showed up like this. Maybe these brothers were never really that different. Lucifer and Michael are initially on the same side against God, Jack is facing an uncomfortable meeting with his own father, and of course a whole host of Winchester fears make it clear that this whole world is only full of dad problems. It used to be full. We are sorry. Too early?

Lucifer brought a scenario into the situation our boys hadn’t thought of – he could create a new death out of Betty the Reaper. Only death can read the book that describes Chuck’s death. Has anyone else wondered if Jack should be the new death? Love the instant insignia including scythe and death ring with ring protection. Apparently, all of this outfit can magically manifest itself, but the ring of death doesn’t fit. Maybe that makes sense because she left so quickly. After seeing the plants die around Jack’s final episode and the beginning of that episode, she fitted into the power vacuum that Billie had left behind. Even after 15 years, this reviewer may still be surprised, and that is proof for the authors.

The theme of fate and free re-emergence in this episode, which, given our constant agonizing concerns about the story, has been appropriate since its appearance. Sam and Dean have fought their fate their entire lives as Cain and Abel of modern times, but Michael the Archangel doesn’t seem to and doesn’t want to shake his predestined fate. He tells Chuck, “It has always been my destiny to serve you,” cementing his betrayal of the Winchesters. Good thing they saw this coming and happened to have a hail of Mary in Jack’s new power.

Chuck could easily have got our boys out with a magical snap of his fingers. Indeed could have done it anytime, but he decides he can get his hands dirty and at the same time starts beating our boys with bare knuckles, breaking their bones but somehow never breaking their ghosts. The Winchester stand up again and again in a strong sign of strength and solidarity and help each other when they break down more and more. Chuck loses interest in the chubby and keeps saying things like “Just stay down,” “That’s enough people,” “Give up.” He’s losing more and more of his cool and seems almost desperate to make it stop . Chuck doesn’t seem to have any control over this situation anymore.
