The most terrifying thing to hit Roscommon since a UFO crashed in Boyle in the mid-1990s.

A new horror film starring Elisha Cuthbert and Irish actor Eoin Macken is slated to be shot in Roscommon next month.

According to the Deadline, Cuthbert and Macken will star in The Cellar with Irish director Brendan Muldowney at the helm and will be released next year in Ireland by Wildcard Distribution (Das Loch im Boden, The Young Offenders, Cardboard Gangsters).

The basement, according to the table of contents, tells the story of Keira Woods (Cuthbert), whose daughter mysteriously disappears in the basement of her new house in the country.

Keira soon discovers that there is an ancient and powerful entity that controls her home that she must face or risk losing her family’s souls forever.

According to the Roscommon Herald, filming will begin November 16 and will run just before Christmas in locations in Roscommon, Castlerea and Boyle where Chris O’Dowd recently made the TV series Moone Boy.

Notice has already been given for crew members from Roscommon with their own transport and a total of around 60 crew members is expected to be involved.

The basement is co-funded by Epic Pictures and the Western Regional Audiovisual Producers Funds (WRAP), which are valued at EUR 1.4 million for the local economy.

There’s no sign of a specific release date yet, but it all sounds creepier than Halloween night at the King House in Boyle, widely considered to be one of the scariest places in the county.
