The second online exhibition at Art Basel since the coronavirus pandemic spread around the world in March is dedicated to works of art from the 20th century from 100 participating galleries from October 28 to 31.
The virtual event called OVR: 20c (short for Online Viewing Rooms 20th Century) will follow OVR: 2020 in September. The September event focused on artwork created this year.
In addition, there are gallery presentations in which certain artists, trends and developments are examined.
This event “offers an overview of important artistic movements and discourses that arose in the 1900s, as well as unique and compelling works that were created by artists across generations and regions during this time,” said Marc Spiegler, global director of Art Basel, in a statement Thursday.
Highlights include the presentation of photographs from the 1960s in the Fraenkel Gallery; an exhibition by Luciana Brito Galeria, promoting greater international awareness of the Brazilian concrete art movement of the 1950s; Mazzoleni’s presentation of works by three pioneering Italian artists – Alberto Burri, Lucio Fontana and Piero Manzoni; Massimo De Carlos “Homage to the Square”, who explores various interpretations of the “square” shape over the course of the 20th century; as well as the presentation of figurative works at the Michael Rosenfeld Gallery, which represent the trend in American portrait painting of the 20th century.
The OVR: 20c preview begins by invitation only on October 28th. It will be open to the public on October 30th.
