Is fame a chance? I almost say yes .. for example, who would have imagined that the framer of the pillars of the war of Salah Salem, one of the Free Officers, would become more famous than the rest of the members of the Revolutionary Command Council … and that his name was “rumbling” on one of the most famous roads in Egypt, Salah Salem Road, and he is from The longest street in Cairo .. and that his name is also found on the most famous commercial street in Alexandria .. and is also found on many schools, of all degrees .. and in many Egyptian cities, which did not happen even to his elder brother and colleague in the revolution, who is the wing commander, Jamal Salem, And he was one of the most radical and violent members of the Revolutionary Command Council, until he was chosen as the head of the most famous trials organized by the revolution to try politicians prior to the revolution … and he is the officer that King Farouk denounced on the deck of the guarded yacht when he saw him carrying his stick in an inappropriate way as he bid him farewell !!
We did not find the name of the wing commander, Abd al-Latif al-Baghdadi – for example – and he was famous for the magic hand, when he succeeded in paving the Corniche road from Cairo from Rawd al-Farag to Helwan. And he was one of the greatest minds that worked with Gamal Abdel Nasser … even though he was a minister of municipalities and war until he was vice president of the republic .. and even we did not hear about the name of Zakaria Muhyiddin, who took over as prime minister and became vice president of the republic, and he is one of the most important minds who devised a plan On the night of July 23, 1952, and not the name of Kamal al-Din Hussein .. and the rest of the Revolutionary Command Council, we did not find anyone launching their names on any streets.
Even Gamal Abdel Nasser gave his name to Tahrir Square for a while and then changed it, and when they called his name on Nile Street from Agouza to Imbaba, no one remembers his name on this street .. The same thing with the name of Hussein al-Shafi’i, the last one who stayed with Sadat as deputy to Nasser, we did not hear about his name being given to A street .. or even a school.
We remember here the battles – and indeed the issues – that the delegations raised, demanding that the name of the leader, Mustafa al-Nahhas, be named to one of the important streets .. And when the authorities agreed to give his name to “Half Street” in Nasr City, the first part of it bears the name of the journalist to Amin, and the second part bears the name Mustafa Al-Nahhas, meaning they were too much for him to have his name alone on this street.
■ And I know that there are committees to name the streets in most governorates, but for the big names the situation is different .. Rather, everything is done according to the will of the political force in this period or that. This actually raises the issue of names on our streets and squares, and it is not left like that … for circumstances.
Are you not with me that Salah Salem is the most fortunate officer of the July Revolution with these streets … even though he was the Minister of Revolutionary Information under the name of Minister of National Guidance and since the first months of this revolution ?!
