“How sick people get very, very quickly and get worse now much faster.
“We all do our best to keep everyone safe, but we need more people to do what they can.”
She added, “This is not going to go away anytime soon.”
The UK coronavirus death toll rose 136 today and the total number of people killed with the virus is now 43,429.
Cases rose 15,650 in the past 24 hours, with 844 patients hospitalized.
On Wednesday, Liverpool became the first region in the UK to be placed on Tier 3 lockdown, the highest level of alert.

Cases in Liverpool have risen from 94 a week through September 1 to the current 3,199 cases a week.
NHS figures released today showed the deaths of patients with Covid-19 in hospitals in the Liverpool metropolitan area rose by around a quarter to 56 in one week.

Dr. Richard Wenstone, an intensive care advisor at Royal Liverpool University Hospital, said: “We are under a lot of pressure every day now. My biggest concern is that we haven’t seen the climax of the second climb yet.
“Now we’re going into winter and expect the flu season to begin too, and of course winter is a very busy time for hospitals anyway.
“But this is a very serious illness. It’s here, it won’t go away very quickly, it kills people, and it will keep killing people until there is a vaccine – if we ever get a vaccine. ”

“I don’t think there is any doubt about that. So we know that we can reduce transmission if people follow the rules. ”
Meanwhile, Liverpool Women’s Hospital will cease prenatal and postnatal visits to wards from midnight to cope with the “growing seriousness” of the Covid-19 spike.
The high rate of infection has put pressure on the hospitals in Royal Liverpool, Broadgreen and Aintree.

Dr. Tristan Cope, medical director of the NHS Foundation Trust at Liverpool University Hospitals, warned that the surge in coronavirus patients could have a “devastating” impact on the treatment of patients with other diseases.
