Aden - Yasmine El Tohamy - Enhancing bilateral collaboration, contribution of Japanese companies in projects highlighted

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) mangaing director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer received Dr Akima Umezawa, Consul-General of Japan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, highlighting the importance of enhancing bilateral collaboration and the contribution of Japanese companies in electricity and water projects in the emirate.

Al Tayer discussed ways to share best practices, experiences and expertise in energy, water and sustainability, and further develop these areas for mutual benefit.

The UAE attaches great importance to sustainability and the shift towards a green economy, through increasing the use of clean and renewable energy. This is in accordance with Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, launched by His Highness Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide 75 per cent of total power output from clean energy sources by 2050.

To achieve this, Dewa launched several green programmes and initiatives, including the Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world using the independent power producer model.

It has a planned production capacity of 5,000MW by 2030, with investments totalling Dh50 billion. When completed, it will save over 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually and will provide thousands of jobs in clean energy and the green economy.

Al Tayer reviewed Dewa's most prominent projects, initiatives and programmes in anticipating and shaping the future of energy, through pioneering a futuristic model for utilities in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity and water.

He said that Dewa has investments of over Dh86 billion over the next five years to meet the growing demand for electricity and water in the emirate.

Dr Umezawa commended Dewa efforts in enhancing a green economy, and facilitating services provided to Japanese companies in Dubai.
