17.18 – Majority Chamber opposes phasing out corona support
A majority in the House of Representatives does not think it is a good plan to phase out the economic support package after 1 January. The measures to contain the second corona wave are hitting the economy hard. Many opposition parties have therefore been saying for some time that it is unwise to ‘cut back’ the support measures. VVD and D66 are also agreeing to this now.

17:10 – Media report new measures
Not only museums, libraries, theaters, cinemas, amusement parks, zoos, concert halls and music venues have to be closed for two weeks. The swimming pools and saunas will also close for that time. This is reported by RTL News.

The cabinet is also calling on everyone not to travel abroad in the coming months. That is to say: not during the Christmas holidays, but also not in the first half of January, the NOS reports.

In addition, as was more or less clear earlier, the group size will be reduced to two people outside. According to the NOS, only 30 people are allowed to attend weddings and funerals. The measures would soon be announced at seven o’clock during the press conference of Rutte and De Jonge, media report.

16:45 – Lower House wants European import ban
The House of Representatives wants the government to push for a European import ban on fur and fur products from fur animals. More than half of Dutch mink farms are now infected with the corona virus.

A motion in which the Party for the Animals, supported by GroenLinks and D66, asks to stop the import of fur (products) from fur animals was supported by a majority of MPs on Tuesday. The cabinet advised against the motion because a European trade and import ban would not be feasible.

16.09 – ‘GGD employees looked at the Aboutaleb file’
GGD employees looked at the files of at least two well-known Dutch people who had a corona test done. That reports the AD. One of them is the Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb. The GGD itself does not want to disclose the names of the well-known Dutch people. The GGD does report that a breach has been reported to the Dutch Data Protection Authority

15.25 – De Jonge: figures not bad, but not good enough
The latest coronavirus infection figures are “not bad, but also not good enough”, according to Health Minister Hugo de Jonge. The number of infections has been decreasing for a number of days and is now well below 8,000.

The most concerned ministers discussed the figures for hours on Tuesday. Prime Minister Rutte and Minister De Jonge will most likely announce new measures at the beginning of the evening. This is necessary to reduce the pressure on hospitals more quickly.

3:00 pm – Greece in partial lockdown with curfew
Greece will go into a partial lockdown for a month on Tuesday to counter a revival of the corona virus. Catering establishments, museums, cinemas and other public buildings must close in hard-hit areas. There is also a curfew across the country between midnight and 5:00 am.

The partial lockdown applies in cities such as Athens, Thessaloniki, Larisa and Loánnina. Not all companies have to close there. Hair salons, hotels and many businesses are allowed to remain open. Schools are also not closing. On Monday it was announced that flights to Thessaloniki will also be canceled for a period of two weeks.

14.25 – Less new infections
New corona infections were reported in Brabant on Tuesday 1721. A decrease of 76 compared to Monday. Then 1797 new infections were reported. This is evident from figures from the RIVM.

This number has also fallen nationally. Between Monday morning and Tuesday morning, the institute received 7,776 reports of positive tests. On Monday there were 8305, so 529 more.

The weekly figures also show a decline for the first time in two months. Last week, 64,087 cases were reported nationally.

14.15 – 108 hospital admissions nationwide due to corona
The total number of corona patients admitted to hospital is 2,653 on Tuesday, 108 more than Monday. This is reported by the National Coordination Center for Patient Distribution (LCPS). 2044 of these patients are in a nursing ward and therefore outside the intensive care unit, 86 more than yesterday. The IC has 609 Covid patients (of which 2 in Germany), 22 more than the day before. There are 449 patients on the IC for reasons other than corona, 34 more than yesterday. The total IC occupancy thus amounts to 1058 (of which 2 in Germany), 56 more than the previous day.

14.00 – More than 3000 fines for not wearing mouth masks in ov
Since the introduction of the masking requirement in public transport on 1 June, 3,034 travelers have been fined for not wearing a face mask. In the past month in particular, the Public Prosecution Service handled many more face masks fines, because at the end of September the counter was still at 1641.

12:00 – 484 corona patients in hospitals in Brabant
In the last 24 hours, 76 new corona patients have been admitted to Brabant hospitals. That is 40 more than the day before. In total, there are now 484 corona patients in hospitals in our province, an increase of 28 compared to Monday.

5 corona patients have died in the past 24 hours, 57 corona patients have been discharged from hospital and 8 patients have been transferred to another hospital. This is all evident from the dashboard of the Regional Consultation Acute Care, which is updated daily.

11.25 – Cinemas want extra support
The cinema industry wants extra financial support because of the corona crisis. If it is indeed decided to close the halls again, the cinemas and film theaters will collapse in the coming period, the Dutch Association of Cinemas and Film Theaters (NVBF) reports Tuesday.

Various sectors, such as events and free theater producers, have received additional support. “Unfortunately, this does not apply to the cinemas, while cinemas desperately need extra financial support. We call on politicians to provide extra financial support for the cinemas, especially now that the cinemas need it so badly!”

10.00 – More than 7,000 people in Belgian hospitals
For the first time in the corona crisis, more than 7,000 people with corona are in Belgian hospitals. That writes the Belgian broadcaster VRT. There is also a record in the ICU: 1302 patients are there. Moreover, the number of deaths from corona is still rising sharply.

08.30 – Efteling fears closure
Efteling is preparing behind the scenes for tonight’s press conference. It may be decided that the amusement parks should also close their doors. “It is all still very vague. We hope of course to be able to remain open”, says a spokesman. “Of course we understand that safety comes first, if we had to close. For the rest we really have to wait for the press conference and then the decision of the security region.”

07.00 – Pub crawl Cuijk with carnival is canceled
Also the traditional Kuukse elf-pub tour will not take place during carnival next year. The event in Cuijk normally attracts about 16,000 visitors. It was supposed to take place on Tuesday, February 16, 2021. “Based on current emergency regulations and the development of the virus, it is impossible to have a party like this,” said Lars Arts, Commission President Kuukse elf-pub tour. “And suppose more is possible in February than now, it is still not feasible for us to organize.”

06.00 – Cabinet decides on additional corona measures
The cabinet will decide on Tuesday which additional measures it will take to reduce the number of new corona virus infections more quickly. The ministers most involved in the crisis meet for this purpose in the afternoon. After that, Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge will announce the tightening during a press conference at 7 pm.

It was revealed on Monday that it is very likely that measures are to limit the group size, such as the temporary closure of museums, theaters and cinemas, but also the limitation of the maximum group size outside from four to two people. Rutte and De Jonge will probably also discuss the Christmas holidays, perhaps they will come up with negative travel advice. And it is also expected that they will discuss the duration of the catering closure.

05.45 – GGD now also measures in sewers whether the virus is roaming around
Since today, the cabinet has an important indicator for the corona virus. In addition to the test results of the GGDs and patient numbers in hospitals, the sewers now also show how the virus spreads, Trouw writes.

05.00 – Ministry is still keeping reports from the OMT secret
The internal discussions and meeting reports of the cabinet’s chief corona advisor, the Outbreak Management Team (OMT), remain secret. Although the OMT takes a critical look at its own transparency and the interconnectedness with the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, minutes are not made public, the AD writes.

With an appeal to the Government Information Act (Wob), this newspaper, like other media, requested the minutes and reports of the OMT meetings. But the Ministry of Health refuses to disclose those documents.

03.30 – Probably the number of new corona cases will drop slightly
In the past seven days, probably about the same number of corona cases have been diagnosed as in the previous week, and probably even slightly less. It would be the first drop in two months. The exact figure comes on Tuesday from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). It will then also be known how many deaths and hospitalizations have been reported in the past week, and whether the so-called reproduction number has changed. That number indicates how quickly the virus is spreading.

03.30 – Chamber is considering additional corona support for companies
On Tuesday, the House of Representatives will consider a new aid package of half a billion euros for industries that are hard hit by the tightened corona measures. Ministers Wouter Koolmees of Social Affairs, Eric Wiebes of Economic Affairs and Wopke Hoekstra of Finance will defend the plans.
