Qatar Petroleum announces a new discovery in South Africa

She indicated that the discovery is the second in the region, which the company is researching in partnership with Total, France. In February 2019, it announced an important discovery of natural gas and condensates in the Brulbada field, located in the same region.

Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi said: “We are pleased to announce the second discovery of its kind in our joint exploration project in South Africa, as the initial results of the well were better than expected.”

The “Lowbeard” field was drilled at a depth of about 3,400 meters, and a reservoir of 73 meters was discovered containing gas and condensate in tanks from the Cretaceous period.

The area of ​​the area prepared for exploration is 19,000 square kilometers, and the depth of the water ranges from 200 to 1,800 meters. Total is in charge of exploration, as it participates in the project with 45%, while Qatar Petroleum owns 25%.
