BNP Paribas Fortis puts Brussels offices in lockdown

BNP Paribas Fortis does not wait for additional corona measures from the government. The bank will lock down its branches in the Brussels Region from Monday. No additional steps are yet being taken for the offices in the other regions.

BNP Paribas Fortis is adjusting its office policy now that the number of infections in Brussels is derailing. From Monday, all offices in the 19 municipalities of the Brussels Region will be open only in the morning (9 am-12.30pm) and only by appointment.

Anyone who still wants to go to a bank branch will only be able to do so for urgent matters, says a spokesperson. ‘Think of collecting a credit card, because we never send it to our customers for security reasons. But for investment advice or other less urgent matters, customers in the Brussels Region will have to call or meet with their banker via video conferencing. ‘

Nothing will change for the time being for the BNP Paribas Fortis offices in Flanders and Wallonia. Although the bank also emphasizes that it prefers remote advice there.

The other major banks have not yet adjusted their office policies. KBC, ING Belgium and Belfius work by appointment and advise their customers to contact their banker remotely as much as possible.

Nothing will change for the staff in the head offices either. BNP Paribas Fortis allows employees to go to the office every three weeks. The other major banks use a similar rotation system.
