A new app that can alert the authorities to residents breaching mandatory home isolation orders has been introduced.
The Stay Home programme was unveiled by Department of Health Abu Dhabi this weekend.
It would be installed in the devices of people given a 'mandatory home quarantine'.
It is thought to be reserved for people who have been in contact with a patient and are at high risk of having the virus.
Abu Dhabi Media Office explained the process of signing up for the app and why it was necessary in a series of posts on Twitter.

The app can determine the location of users, who would be given log-in details and a password to access the portal.
Users will receive an alert informing them to stay within the range of permitted movement during their period of quarantine. Anyone identified for a mandatory period of home quarantine can download the app from the Google Play or App Store.
Until now, the vast majority of confirmed cases in the Emirates have been taken in to hospitals for isolation, but in other countries minor cases are told to stay at home and recuperate.
Governments across the globe are looking at how to treat and contain people with the virus without the need for hospital beds.
On Friday, officials revealed 240 new cases of Covid-19 bringing the total to 1,264.
Most contracted the disease because they did not comply with advice to self-isolate and practise social distancing, officials said.
