The Dubai Appeals Court has upheld the ruling of a lower court that had sentenced an African cleaner to a year in prison and a Dhs1,000 fine for robbing his colleague.
Official records point out that the defendant and the victim, a waitress, had worked together at the same restaurant in Dubai.
At the day of the robbery, the defendant took advantage of the victim being occupied with work, and stole Dhs1,000 from her purse.
The victim found out about the missing money after she finished her work shift, and immediately informed the restaurant’s management.
After reviewing surveillance cameras, the management learned that the defendant was the one who stole the victim’s money.
Police were informed and the defendant was apprehended on robbery charges.
However, during investigations the defendant revealed that he had taken the money and sent it to his family back in his home-country.
